Flood Affected Unit

The entire unit was designed with Flood Resilience solutions

The interior aesthetic is modern with classic features, as per the client's brief, and has blended old with new furnishings throughout to give it a comfortable, cosy feel, light and bright. Clever "small space" storage solutions have been incorporated throughout.

The initial brief for this project was to give it a "refresh", however, as the flood damage came to light, a complete renovation was required and with that came the opportunity to reconfigure the layout. The kitchen was moved from the back of the unit to the front, adjacent to the courtyard and outdoor entertaining area. The bathroom was given more space and what was the kitchen is now a walk-in robe and general storage space.

Working closely with an amazing Carpenter (Edward Hoogland) the entire unit was designed with Flood Resilience solutions. Recognised by Flood Resilience Queensland as "one of the best" they'd seen.

  • All the internal framings are painted with water resistant, mould resistant paint

  • The lower wall panels are removable for any future clean-up, the Kitchen carcass is triple coated marine ply

  • The floor tiles are porcelain (for their density) with a silicone grout and powerpoint raised above any potential flood level

This means, in the event of another flood, the unit can be easily stripped, cleaned and put back together without the expense of having to renovate again. Of course we hope that never happens!
